49ers gambled and lost

Neglected the O-line in favor of ball handlers and now they're left with no pass protection. Left tackle Trent Williams is out with a high-ankle sprain 4 to 6 weeks -- one of the most important members of the team. Back-ups have little to no experience.

Losing Deebo Samuels or George Kittle would have been a big blow. But a team needs to pass protect and open running lanes to control time of possession. Even the best defense eventually gets tired.

Mike Singletary, 2009-2010
Jim Harbaugh, 2011-2014
Jim Tomsula, 2015
Chip Kelly, 2016
Kyle Shanahan, 2017-Current

Edited to add, a GM with no experience, who thinks most of the Shanahan's coaches leaving are a testament to Kyle.

3. The first four coaches on your list were from a different GM

I think John Lynch has done a decent job with the exception of overlooking the o-line this year. His biggest blunder and one that may cost him his job was drafting Trey Lance. That cost him three draft picks to get a QB who was an inexperience enigma. Those draft choices could be productive starters now.

2. That's also a pretty good summary of the Iowa Hawkeyes this year,

except for the left tackle injury.

Great defense. Great special teams. No offense.

In four games so far this year, the defense has outscored the offense in two of them.

4. Everyone knew that the O-line was week, for all off-season. Nothing substantial done to augment it

As for the worst offensive game in 49er history ..... well, more "brilliant strategy" at work.

Jimmy G. was being shopped, so he stood on the sidelines all pre-season, got no snaps, no playbook, and as one person said, "Threw footballs into a trash can" all that time.

And as for Kyle, the "offensive genius" who makes only one mistake per game --- the deciding play at the end, he did it again, declining a penalty, so Denver made a 51 yard FG, easy in that vacuum one mile high, and the game was won by one point.

Social Media and "Forty Niner Faithful" are ripping Jimmy G. for being the second QB in NFL history to take a walk past the end line.

No idea what was going on there. The safety nullified a pick 6 that he threw. But, like the FG, that was decisive.

So it goes.

Wilson is 17 and 4 against SF.

5. Shanahan reportedly was going to use the backfield as added O-line blockers

That's why they cut JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon and kept bigger backs on the roster.* Plus, Shanahan was counting on having Trey Lance as an added runner and decoy. But then Lance and starting RB Elijah Mitchell got hurt and they needed the larger backs to run the ball.

Then Trent Williams got hurt and Kittle, Kyle Juszczyk and company had to double team the pass rush. No playmakers for Jimmy to throw to. Shanahan's little plan all went to shit.

That 51 yard field goal was a really bad decision.

I was wondering why Wilson hadn't been assigned a spy? It's customary to assign one LB or Safety to "spy" on mobile QBs should they decide to scramble. No one was near Wilson when he did and he burned the 49er defense on several plays. So there was either no spy or the one that had been assigned was Maxwell Smart.

And we thought the 49ers couldn't play any worse than they did against the Bears in Week One. Think again.
