Birders

I pass through a park area daily. There are always a lot of birds - ducks, geese, an occasional bald eagle, a few hawks, etc. This involved geese.
There's an area where they always gather and usually more females than males. I saw, coming up, a couple of them facing off; wings up and flapping and obviously hissing at each other. I assumed 2 males going at it, but as I got nearer, I saw one was a female.
And she was winning. Apparently, the gander had crossed some line or other and she was letting him have it. He was backing up and backing down as hard as he could and she just would not let up.
I did not know they did that. Whatever it was, good on her.

(42,555 posts)that reminds me of the time I walked up the hill to the Hospital to use the ATM there, and passed a group of deer on the way back .... and I had to ask myself, "why are they on their way back from the ATM ? Are they getting ready for a big weekend ? "
