A Cedar Waxwing Day in Central Park NYC

Gloria@Lucent 508

''Today is Cedar Waxwing day in Central Park as I've seen over a hundred! Huge groups feeding on berries, flying around calling & of course dropping down to bathe. I've seen two active nests being built. We New Yorkers are lucky they nest here so we get to enjoy them all Summer.''

''I captured a remarkable courtship ritual between Cedar Waxwings in Central Park. They repeatedly hopped toward each other and exchanged a serviceberry!''

But came to love them one summer when they came and rescued the property I lived on by descending on my trees and eating ALL the bark beetles in them. I never saw another beetle in the remaining four years that I was there. I recall that I could hear their distinctive peeping sounds in my head as I fell to sleep at night. Got to watch their mating rituals, very sweet and cute, almost like a cartoonish sort of love-bird interaction as they nudge each other on a tree branch.

tree quicker than just about any other birds. I love the way they pass the berries down the line! Thanks for posting these pictures.
