1. A really spiffy Tesla flew by me ( about 11 inches away ) this morning at about 75 mph

I WANT THIS GIZMO !!!!!!! even though there is no place to bail put on that stretch of road a warning would help .

I will not ride off road ...repeat at my age I will not ride off road .

2. I have an Edge 800 so that won't work :(

Though I agree that the lateral closeness to me is a pretty important thing to know, too. I love when semis just fly by about a foot away going way too damn fast.

3. I use a rearview mirror... works great

It's the Blackburn rearview mirror that attaches with a velcro strap.

I've gotten so used to it that I'm uncomfortable if I don't have it.

Between that and being able to hear, the Garmin thingie seems a bit much.

4. I thought of an unintended consequence that could be a plus

If the radar uses the same freqs as police radar it would set off radar detectors in the vehicles behind you. They might slow down.
