i see a lot of commuters posting in the bike forum, but rarely see anything about mountain bikes. does anyone else ride the trails? if so, what style? what kind of bike(s) do you own or ride? where do you like to ride?
i've been riding MTBs for about 25 years, and ride mostly XC/AM. i currently own 3 whips: a 2007 Giant Reign X1, a 2008 Giant Trance X1, and a 2008 Redline Monocog Flight 29er. The Monocog is my baby, and i've practically built it from the ground up. on a good weekend, i manage to get in rides on all three! i live about 5 minutes from Mission Trails Regional Park, and there is no shortage of tracks to choose from.

(23,867 posts)I'm currently riding a 2007 Ibis Mojo.
I've ridden much of the west coast. I live to ride, and ride pretty much every day. I bought a place that has a trail right off the back door. Today I did 20 miles with 2000 feet of some of the most beautiful singletrack around. Through the redwoods of the Mendocino coast.
I've been riding mountain bikes since 1984. I grew up with Tom Ritchey, and many of my friends are part of the founding of the sport. I should have been, but never connected the dots.

(30,994 posts)Single speeds kill me. I love them for it.
Of course I have the World Heavyweight Champion of Big Dummy cargo bikes - A Rohloff, a Phil wood front hub, Hope Ti 6 pot brakes, Chris King steelset, Spike Spank rims............Thomson seatpost and stem......
I can ride it like a mountain bike over about 50% of what I ride, so does that count???

that big dummy is such a cool bike! ran into a guy at point reyes on a big dummy he had built up for the trails. fat tires and Fox RL 100.

(30,994 posts)I spend so much time standing up and mashing it that a suspension fork just robs the momentum......
If I could get one with a true lockout, I'd get one.....

(126 posts)I can't stand shocks. My best bicycle is a Cenelli Super Corsa with a Chorus groupo and STX Columbus tubing.

(11,138 posts)I live in South Florida. There really aren't any decent tracks around here. I ended up turning my Specialized Rockhopper Comp into, you guessed it, a commuter/light touring rig.

(126 posts)A Pinnicle and a Fervor, all three with no shocks of any kind. I like them and ride the Fervor the most when I ride on in town./
Though on Leaf Ericson Drive in Forest Park in Portland Oregon, I prefer my LeMond Poprid cyclocross bike.
I used to race and I do a great deal of touring. Oh yes, I have an older care I use if I absolutely have to move something big or go somewhere very wuickly. Otherwise I ride, 365 days a year.

(30,994 posts)I was riding a 1985 Specialized Stumpjumper Sport, with racks and rear panniers.
Think Eddie Merckx (Molteni) orange for the color of my bike.
Not that many Poprads out there. I likes 'em.
Loves me some Bridgestone MB's too.
I've had two MB2's and an MB3.
