It was a rout. GP6971 Jun 2023 #1
Yeah, I looked up the play-by-play on ESPN. Mr.Bill Jun 2023 #3
By the time I heard about it part way through the game, the Angels had already scored 24. RockRaven Jun 2023 #2
True, AND ... that exact pitcher was the last one to have that same thing happen, IIRC in 2020 Hugh_Lebowski Jun 2023 #4
But the Rockies won the series CanonRay Jun 2023 #5

At first I figured it was one of those games where you are losing 12-0 and you use position players to pitch the last few innings. But those 13 runs happened in the third inning. Oh well, if it was going to happen, my money would have been on it happening at Mile-High Stadium.

I believe they scored 13 runs in one inning. Also there was one point where they hit three home runs on three consecutive pitches (i.e. one guy hits a homer, and then the next two guys hit first-pitch homers) from the same pitcher.

Pretty sure he's the only pitcher in history to have it happen twice in their career, or at least the only one to have it happen against them in two outtings w/o any other MLB pitcher have it happen to them in between theirs.

Just to give you a feel of the night, this my frustrated txt msg exchange with my buddy that I played with growing up, through high school, and we split up for college ball but are still super close:

Me:
3 pitches, 3 home runs in the 3rd for the Angels

Me:
Rockies gave up 13 in the third. 0-15 angels.

Me:
Sold out game, again. No wonder the owners give no shits about putting together a winning program.

Him:
Yuck

Me:
Many fans gave them a standing ovation when they finally got off the field. I don't think it was the standing O the Rockies think it was...trout was 2 batters away from hitting 3 times in the inning. Rest assured he’s coming up now in the 4th now that the Rockies did nothing in the bottom. 3rd pitcher on the mound

Me:
They just left Noah Davis in. He owns probably 8 of the 23.
….23 runs and counting in the 4th. 1 out

Me:
My favorite play was when neither Grichuk or Doyle could see the routine fly and it plopped inbetween them both.

Him:
Wow
Just watched the “highlights” on espn
That is bad
What’s the over under for the final
35? For the angels only

Me:
I'm done. I'll check the final tomorrow

Him:
League record is 28 to 0.
I'm actually rooting for the Angel's to break the record
