(17,802 posts)I get that Rickey is a great lead off threat because of base stealing potential but Williams was a better all around hitter. (Basing that comparison off of assignment at LF)

(57,480 posts)Roberto Clemente, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams and Stan Musial could be added as well. Roy Campanella too. If ya wanna to way back, There's Hornsby and the sob Cobb.
And no pitchers?

(60,682 posts)In baseball, "lineup" implies batting order, and both leagues have the DH rule now. But if you're not going to include any players from after the 90's, perhaps the DH should not be part of it.

(10,115 posts)That leaves a hole at lead off, but Id slide Morgan in there, instead of his normal two slot. Id also move Aaron to right, and make Ruth DH. Ruths position was more accurately described as non-sun field.. That was right field in Yankee Stadium, but usually left on the road.

(2,888 posts)He piled up stats but if you look at OPS+, batting average. HR per at bat, he doesn't hold a candle to Ted Williams or a slew of other guys. Aaron and Pete Rose are longevity stat stuffers, great players, but not top 9.
I'd take Barry bonds over Ricky (even presteroid bonds) since Ricky spent a lot of time in CF like Bonds did.
Shortstop is tough...honus Wagner was a racist asshat, but probably the best hitting short stop of all time. Plus ARod put up some monster numbers. Maybe Jeter. Playing in Wrigley boosted Banks career stats.
I love Johnny Bench, grew up watching the Big Red Machine, but hard to know if he or Josh Gibson was better.

(69,860 posts)He didn't care about fielding anyway. I wonder if the AI understands that Williams missed nearly 5 seasons due to combat flying in 2 wars.
And, I hate to say this, but there have been better 2nd baseman than Jackie. Nothing close to his social impact, and the importance of integrating the game, but Lazzeri, Sandberg, Morgan or Biggio have better stats.
It also pains me to say this, but I wouldn't have Ernie at short. Honus Wagner would be my pick.
And, I'd put Aaron in left, since he's not the DH anymore, and leave out Rickey. And, I loved Rickey's game, but we wouldn't need a base stealer with that lineup.
