Giants' bats go dead again in 2-0 loss to Cardinals

Bruce Bochy should not be a mystery to Giants fans after all these years. He sticks with struggling players much longer than most wish he would, a show of faith that his players appreciate.

Only after a situation gets dire does he make a change, like moving Sergio Romo out of the closer's spot. Now we know what constitutes "dire" for the offense: getting shut out for the third time in nine games on one homestand.

After the Giants fell to the Cardinals 2-0 Wednesday night, Bochy said he will drop Gregor Blanco from the leadoff spot and replace him with Hunter Pence, perhaps as soon as Thursday.

When Brandon Belt returns from nearly two months on the disabled list Friday, he will bat second behind Pence.
