Posey, Hudson star as Giants rout Cardinals 8-0

St. Louis -- - It was a Midwestern Hades on Sunday, hot and humid, the kind of afternoon that calls for intravenous fluids midgame and a 38-year-old pitcher standing at the plate and watching his groundball to third without moving, wondering if he really had to run with a seven-run lead.

"Just trying not to have a stroke," Tim Hudson said.

Hudson's one-liners are as dependable as the 2014 Giants, who took another impressive pelt at Busch Stadium over the weekend. Sunday's 8-0 victory gave them three wins in four games against the Cardinals and offered their partisans more reasons to believe that something very interesting is cooking here.

It was just another day in Best Recordville. One of the game's oldest pitchers moved to .07 runs behind the major-league ERA lead. Team RBI leader Michael Morse had to be scratched with a sore foot, courtesy of a foul ball Saturday. His emergency replacement, Joaquin Arias, entered the game with two RBIs on the season and added three after two at-bats.

Buster Posey's return from a lower-back injury was the day's most significant development.

ARE THE GIANTS TOO HOT?
