Pablo Sandoval homers in SF Giants' 4-1 win

The Giants open a three-game series in Colorado on Tuesday. Normally, they would make the two-hour flight on the day off before, but not this time, not after a mentally and physically challenging stretch of 17 games without a break.

Instead, the Giants flew Sunday after beating Miami 4-1 to split four games and end a 4-3 homestand. They will spend an extra $10,000 in lodging and meal money to travel a day early so the players can do absolutely nothing Monday if they choose.

Larry Baer might feel better spending the dough after the Giants won 11 of the 17 games spread from Georgia to Pennsylvania, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

"I think we're in a good place," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I like the way the guys handled the stretch. They kept getting after it. There wasn't any letup."
