10 pitches (7 strikes), three outs.

This is an epic series—a battle of reserve players.

3. Dodgers closer, Kenley Jansen, is wanting some of that redemption, too

Third game, top of the ninth, the Dodgers leading 2-1, and he blew it:

⅓ inning pitched, three hits, three earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout. He got yanked with the basses loaded.

The fair weather Dodgers fans booed him as he exited.

Curiously, Wilmer Flores' first hit, ever, off of Jansen was that go-ahead two-run homer. It may not have been a walk off home run, but it was just as sweet, Baby!

Tonight's final game is the last time Dodgers and the Giants play in LA this season. That is, until the postseason playoffs.

5. To Hell with the 'Big names', I'm looking at the numbers

So is Gabe Kapler, and that Minnie-Me guy glued to Kapler's side, Kai Correa. (I say Minnie-Me because Kapler starting wearing specs just like Kai's, "Oh look, there's a scorboard out there, and it's full of numbers".)

7. Early in the season, I assumed he was the resident computer whiz kid feeding Kapler....

"Billy Ball" numbers, or something, but Kai Correa is totally the real deal. He absolutely, stone cold, knows infield play; even the "big names" will admit they've improved their game employing Kali's approach. Simple scientific fundamentals, Baby!

8. For sure ... huge improvement overall. Entire coaching staff as well.

They're trying to work their magic on Tauchman now. He's out of options, so it's now or never.

Great defender. Grinds out at-bats too, increasing pitch counts. But he can't make contact for a hit.

9. Looks like they kicked the Tauchman question down the road

Tauchman entered the game in the top of the ninth as a pinch-runner, then played left field; he didn't bat.

I just learned the Giants have a batting cage under the stands, right behind their dugout in Oracle Park, and the pitching machine is a state of the art device that can throw everything (this is fantastic for 'cold' pinch-hitters who have been sitting on the bench for 6, 7, 8 innings). The Giants returned to SF today, and I suspect Tauchman has been instructed to park his butt in the cage until he rediscovers his groove.

Designated for Assignment is a Hell of a way to end your Giants career, and may be a huge incentive for him to find his groove
