I'm watching the first all-broad broadcast of a major league game and...

I'm not turned off. Stunned and confused maybe but not against it.

It's still on the YouTube game of the week. Orioles at Rays. Five women are doing the broadcasting and other than talking too, much are just fine.

1. Brava to this team of announcers!

2. Sportscasters always talk too much, IMHO

They fill every bit of silence. But that's what they do.

I've gotten quite used to hearing women casters for NBA games.

Now when they have them calling NFL games, that will be remarkable.

Will it sound better or worse if it's a woman saying, "He's looking for a hole. Great penetration here."

3. I've compared pre-game shows and sports talk shows as the View for Men.

Particularly sports talk radio - it's awful programming and offers very little of substance.

And don't even get me started on draft predictions. I'd rather perform a DIY root canal than listen to those idiots. Guys I work with would start talking about who's going to be taken in the 5th round and I'd start to look for sharp objects.

Maybe I'm just a pain in the ass, but it's tough to listen to.

4. I listen sometimes just to hear them start ... speculating.

"Well, for next Tuesday's game, let's say Peterman is put on injured reserve--"

"He's not."
"Let's just say! Speculate! Say Peterman's on IR, and they substitute Jones."
"They'd never go for Jones first! Smith has 6 more RBIs against southpaws on Tuesdays."

"I SAID, LET'S JUST SAY! So Jones is in, and if he strikes out in the ninth inning--"

"If the game even goes that long! It might be called for rain!"

"Forget rain! Let's say he strikes out in the ninth inning to end the game. Jones."
"Okay. Jones. Ninth inning strikeout."

"Yeah, then he'd be only the third Angel to have more strikeouts than hits in the ninth inning on a Tuesday. EVER!"

"Wow. Yeah. That would be something."

5. Speculating about trade rumors is just as bad.

Coworker - "I heard on the radio we might try to acquire Smith."
Me - "Is your car running? Would you mind backing over my head?"

And the worst part is that I've worked with 3 guys for more than 10 years who have this discussion with me every February during hockey season. They should know better than to ask my opinions on trade rumors.

I honestly think they're punking me at this point.
