whose lifetime average was .328.

OTOH, he had a big year in 1977 when he knocked in 100 runs to go with a sterling .388 average.

He hit .301.
He was the only player with a qualifying number of at-bats to hit .300 in the entire league.
Interestingly, 2 NL hitters hit .330 or better, but only 4 total were over .300.
That was a pitchers' year!
