2. sports players betting on sports games is bad because it gives them an incentive to cheat

the astros skipped the incentive part and went straight to the cheating.

rose is right to point out the inconsistency, but of course it's backwards. cheating shouldn't be reduced to a minor offense.

the ethics standard should be higher, not lower.

on ESPN. Rose's banishment from the HoF is one reason I quit watching baseball. Funny it happened in the steroid era.

Cheating has always been a part of baseball. From sign stealing to meth to all sorts of tinctures and ointments and a little grease on the bill of the pitcher's cap.

One thing they talked about that I didn't know is that with the advent of sports betting in all 50 states and the advent of baseball fantasy leagues baseball has tied its future popularity with gambling. How about that?

One casino bigwig was talking how gambling will stop baseball from speeding up their game. Bets are now placed at every little stopping pint including what the next pitch will be. So don't expect those 4 hour games to speed up any time soon - another one of my biggest bitches against baseball.
