1. I saw this last night

and could watch it 100 more times! Just amazing.

And Mercado has been criticized lately for his questionable defense. He said in a radio interview this morning that he’s been working on it. Whatever he’s doing, I hope he keeps it up!

2. It's defense like that that helps you make the playoffs

Mike Krukow, former S.F. Giants pitcher (and current genius broadcaster), once said that in any given baseball season a team is pretty much guaranteed to win 60 games and lose 60 games. It's just averages -- some days it comes together, some days it doesn't. It's how you play those other 40 (or 42) that determine if you're a playoff team. That catch by Mercado helped achieve one of those 40 wins.

Yes, it was an amazing catch -- one of the best ever.

How many more plays like that will we see from Cleveland this September? The season is on the line this weekend and the next vs. Minnesota. Six games. I hope Brad Hand can find his groove again.

Mercado told interviewer Andre Knott that he and Franmil Reyes are cousins.
