Giants released Scooter Gennett today -- the guy they traded for at the deadline.

They REALLY want to take a look at infielder (likely of the future) Mauricio Dubon from AAA. He was also a trade deadline acquisition, but from Milwaukee. Gennett came from the Reds, and was placed on unconditional release waivers.

Baseball is weird.

And the Giants decided enough was enough and cut bait.

Gennett was a free agent rental though. I can imagine he wanted every opportunity to find the swing he had in years’ past with next year on the line. Panik was in such a slump that anyone who could breathe at 2B was an improvement. Who knows — maybe Cincy re-signs him? Fingers crossed Dubon can make an impact.
