(5,966 posts)Here's another one that seems safe. In 1999, Cardinals third baseman, Fernando Tatis, hit two grand slams in the same inning (against the same pitcher). He stands as the only major leaguer to do so. It's conceivable that his record for grand slams in a single inning could be tied, but it will never be broken.

(6,345 posts)You can win 20 games for 20 years which would make you one of the greatest of all time and you still be 111 wins short of Cy Yongs record.

(6,252 posts)"Johnny Vander Meer of the Cincinnati Reds pitched two consecutive no-hitters. In order to break this record, a pitcher would have to pitch three consecutive no-hitters simply impossible!
1938 was Vander Meer's first full season; however, the often wild throwing lefty did not let that get to him. On June 11th at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Vander Meer walked three while striking out four and allowing no hits against the Boston Bees. No Boston player even made it past first base. Four days later in Brooklyn, he was a little less steady. He walked eight and struck out seven in the very first night game at Ebbets Field. He needed a little help from some spectacular plays by his teammates and almost ended the streak himself when he walked the bases full in the ninth, but a well placed pop up by Leo Durocher ended the threat

(5,122 posts)Lifetime shutouts: 110. The modern era leader has about half of that number.
Cy Young's lifetime innings pitched (more than 7.000) will also never be broken.

Willie Mays and Warren Spahn
It's so extraordinary by today's standards, it should be noted: Juan Marichal, the winning pitcher, and Warren Spahn each pitched the ENTIRE game!!
Pitchers these days are wussies compared to those studs.
