Celtics win record 18th NBA championship behind Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown

BOSTON – Sixteen years ago to the date from winning their 17th NBA championship, the Boston Celtics won their 18th.

The Celtics defeated Dallas 106-88 in Game 5 on Monday, putting the finishing touches on the portrait of a champion.

Boston had the best regular-season record (64-18) and rolled through the playoffs with a 16-3 record, never needing more than five games to win a series.

The Celtics stand atop this season and stand atop the NBA in all-time titles, breaking a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for championships.

Boston had the No. 1 offense, the No. 2 defense and best 3-point shooting team during the regular season and that carried over into the playoffs, including the Finals and especially in Game 5.

dominating performance all year. A maddening team at times, blowing leads, etc. But in the end, they came through. Been a fan since the 60's....Red is lighting one up in heaven tonight......

Jaylen Brown deserved the MVP.
If not him it should have been a shared award between Derek White and Jrue Holiday. Defense wins.
Great run for mt Celts.

I think they are built to be a dynasty team. This was maybe the best overall game of the year. Their defense and opportunistic steals to points was amazing. Coach Joe got a lot of compliments from all of the players postgame. This team has got the talent and chemistry to be playing in the finals for some years to come.

Bill Russell, a great player and wonderful human being, gets a pass of course.
And just for the record, Wilt was better though.

I don't know how old you are, but that lighting up the cigar when he decided they had a big enough lead was truly low class.

Since 1972 I have been a fan. Through ups and downs I have never changed teams. When Larry Bird started coaching the Pacers people would ask me if I was going to root for the Pacers when they came to Boston? I told them NO we’re going to beat the hell out of them (lol). I told them I’m not a Boston player fan I’m a Boston Celtics fan…
