Raiders benching Jimmy Garoppolo, starting rookie QB Aidan O'Connell for rest of season

It's a time of great change for the Las Vegas Raiders. Owner Mark Davis fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler on Tuesday night, and now their quarterback has also lost his job.

The Raiders have elected to bench current starter Jimmy Garoppolo and instead will start rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell against the New York Giants. During his introductory news conference on Wednesday, interim head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed reports that O'Connell will be QB1 from now on.

"We just feel like he gives us the best chance," Pierce answered in response to a question about the decision to elevate the 25-year-old.

Pierce and interim general manager Champ Kelly said they met with the team on Tuesday morning and saw a positive reaction to the change.

Raiders looked terrible the last two games. The only thing that surprised me was that Mc Daniels was hired in the first place. But then, Marc Davis is a doofus who inherited the team from his genius dad, so maybe Davis saw himself in Mc Daniels, or was trying to hire someone who didn't know as much about football as he did.

As far as Jimmy G, I liked him as a Niner, but not sad that he's not there anymore. He's got a few more years in the NFL as a back up, maybe, but no tears for him if his career is over after this year. He's had a good run, and he's a mega millionaire. Whatever happens with his NFL future, he's a good guy, and he'll be just fine.

I'm kind of excited to see if he has what it takes to be a long-term starter in the NFL.

He started the Chargers game and finished the Bears game.
He went 34/52 for 313 yds, 1 TD & 2 Int.
Not great, but still the best QB on this team.

But with the Raiders' average players, he sucks. It's best to start the rookie right now and see what they've got.

Jimmy can't throw accurately past 10 yards including throwing to the sidelines laterally. Every 49er fan I know is glad to be rid of him.
