...Donovan Mitchell scored 71 points last night in an OT game against the Bulls.
SEVENTY-ONE POINTS. Shot nearly 65%, had 11 assists & 8 rebounds.
Kind of got lost with Hamlin's medical event.

It should never have gone into OT.

I missed it like everyone, was watching the ball. Not only did he cross the plane, he took a complete step before the ball hit the rim.

That said, my Bulls didn't have to puke away a 21 point lead. If they don't do that, there's no OT, either.

He's 2 years older than Hamlin so probably a sense of "if it can happen to him" for Mitchell.
Of course, Donovan doesn't play a full impact game & the doctors seem pretty convinced Hamlin's event was a highly unusual set of circumstances precipitated by a heavy blow to the chest.
I heard also, that youth pitchers often wear a thin, cushioned plate that protects the edges of the sternum. Apparently this cardiac arrest event has happened to kids. The guy talking about didn't mention if there were fatalities or whether they all survived.

it's mystifying that it doesn't happen with greater frequency. Yes, it takes an unlikely combination of events to trigger it, but when you think of the serious impact that professional and amateur players sustain to the chest every season with such volume, it would seem like something that would occur more often.

I mean, thankfully it doesn't, but it's surprising that it is so rare.
