Amazon taps Richard Sherman for 'Thursday Night Football' broadcast crew
Former NFL superstar Richard Sherman has been hired by another Seattle-area employer.
The Super Bowl winner and former star cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks has joined Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) as a member of the tech giant's "Thursday Night Football" broadcast team, the company announced Tuesday. Sherman will handle pregame, halftime and postgame reporting duties.
"Thursday Night Football" is primed to be a crown jewel for Prime Video, as the streaming service continues to strengthen its lineup. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy often refers to the service during earnings reports and media appearances. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Jassy said Prime Video was one of the company's business ventures he was most optimistic about. Amazon is paying $1 billion per season for an 11-year deal to exclusively host the NFL on Thursday nights, starting with the 2022 season.
Sherman will be joined on the broadcast team by former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez, and Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit.
