And this statement was from the Belmont Stakes race......I didnt realize Secretariats 3 race times ARE STILL THE BEST EVER!!!!!! Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes.....he still holds the records. Gawd I loved that horse. Loved the man that watched over him when Secretariat retired and he always said Secretariat would always pose for anyone who wanted to take his photo. He KNEW he was on camera. I loved that horse. I was just screaming when he ran the Belmont Stakes and just left every other horse in the dirt.......I remember screaming how fast he was.....❤️ ❤️ ❤️

(7,715 posts)Amazing, amazing horse. That video of the Belmont Stakes where the cameras couldn't even cover the view of the gap between Secretariat and the others in the field.

Love that horse!!!
He and Seattle Slew were at the same farm in retirement and had adjoining barns. Apparently, they would race each other up and down the fence that divided their domains.

(26,727 posts)I occasionally watch the three races again, and they are always amazing.
So yeah, in any race against any of the other many legends of racing, he'd beat them all.
Oh, and in every race, he ran each quarter faster than the one before, and was still accelerating every time he crossed the finish line.

(32,073 posts)larger then a normal horse, his was huge, if I remember hearing that. Yup......here it is....
We were all shocked, Swerczek said. I've seen and done thousands of autopsies on horses, and nothing I'd ever seen compared to it. The heart of the average horse weighs about nine pounds. This was almost twice the average size, and a third larger than any equine heart I'd ever seen. And it wasn't pathologically enlarged. All the chambers and the valves were normal. It was just larger. I think it told us why he was able to do what he did.
I knew I heard that........
