He did have Covid last year and was actually on a Ventilator.
Deepest sympathy to Aussie DUers and other cricket fans here.

(278,051 posts)Radio stations broke in to announce it and cricketers from England and the West Indies started the day with a moment of silence. This is HUGE in the cricket world.
I actually wondered why I didn't hear him in Pakistan earlier this morning but clearly he passed on the first Australian tour to Pakistan in over a decade. He was the greatest spin bowler in history.

Here he is with our Brian - the World batting record holder for both Test Matches and First Class cricket. If memory serves me right, the only time Warnie was dropped on tour was after Lara tore him to bits in Jamaica and Barbados back in 98/99/. Shane was dropped for the final test match in Antigua. Two of the best ever.

After the deaths of Warne and Rod Marsh who died late on Friday in Adelaide the Australia opener David Warner tweeted: Two legends of our game have left us too soon. Im lost for words, and this is extremely sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Marsh and Warne family. I just can not believe it. rip, you will both be missed.

708 wickets for Warne in his 145 Tests, behind Sri Lanka star Muralitharans 800 but well ahead of third-placed England seamer James Anderson (640).
1,001 - Warne took another 293 wickets in one-day internationals to crack four figures for Australia in all formats - again only behind Muralitharan in the international record books.
99 - Warnes best Test score as a batter he has the most Test runs of any batsman not to make a century.
8-71 - his career-best figures across all first-class and limited-overs cricket, in a 1994 Test against England in Brisbane.
195 Ashes wickets, the most in the competitions history and 38 more than second-placed Glenn McGrath.
96 - Warnes Test wicket tally in 2005, including 40 in a memorable Ashes series, remains a record for a player in a single calendar year. Muralitharan is closest behind him with 90 in 2006.
1994 - year Warne took a Test hat-trick, removing England tail-enders Phil DeFreitas, Darren Gough and Devon Malcolm in successive balls. It is one of only 46 hat-tricks in Test history.
450,000 Warnes price in the inaugural Indian Premier League auction, where he was bought by Rajasthan Royals. He spent four seasons there as both captain and coach and led them to victory in the first season of the competition.

(278,051 posts)Shane was so young. I am stunned - seriously. Ram (92) and Marsh (74) were enough for the week and now this.

This on top of Rod Marsh dying yesterday, but he was 74. Jeez, 52 is too young to die.

(278,051 posts)Rod was not into the Chappell underarm rubbish- both were loved in the Caribbean.
I feel it for you folks- two greats. Shane was too young- still stunned. Surprised how much it hit me this morning.

He was a loudmouth, a larrikin, a pisspot, a player and a big kid. I loved him to bits.
Years ago, when he was starting out on the Aussie first XI, I was chef at Collingood footie club. His dad Keith either started a commercial food supply business or worked for one. I saw Keithie Warne weekly for a number of years. Lovely guy, down to earth, really proud of his boy.

(278,051 posts)Nice that you knew them. By the way I love that word larrikan and he really was a big kid.
