.302 career batting average, 1,500 hits, 158 homers, 729 RBI and solid defensively. Not too shabby for a catcher who played 12 Major League seasons.

His efforts behind the plate alone merits serious thought. He got the best out of the pitchers and called a great game. An on-field manager (Bochy taught him well). Combined with his offensive numbers, he should be in The Hall IMO.

Retirement: not surprised and almost expected. He's a smart cookie. Leaves at the top of his game with his health, one would assume, still relatively in tact, a young family and piles of dough.

Huge shoes for Farhan Zaidi to fill. Is Joey Bart ready? Might Zaidi pursue free agent Yan Gomes?

3. He was elected to the All-Star team seven times, won a batting title, a Gold Glove

four Silver Sluggers and was named the National League MVP in 2012. He also won three World Series rings with the Giants, in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
