Writing
Related: About this forumYoohoo, calling all published writers looking for promo opportunities!
I have a lot of friends who are authors, and every single one -- whether they are traditionally published or self-published -- is struggling with marketing and PR. As we all know, even if one is traditionally published, both are often left to the writer these days.
I'm thinking of setting up a full-scale "do good" promotional collaboration between Wishadoo! and writers who are part of the Wishadoo! Community, making use of social media and other tools/connections at our disposal.
There are several ways I can share a title/author with various social networks, but I'm also very specifically thinking of creating a dedicated section in the Marketplace, which is like "ebay for good," where writers can donate themed baskets (with signed books, signed postcards or other item if e-book only) for auction.
You as the writer can designate the recipient of the proceeds of your auction, or you can leave it up to the buyer.
Recipients would need to be part of the Wishadoo! Community and have a post in the Wishlist, be it an individual, an organization, a group, a school, A PUBLIC LIBRARY ( ) etc. It could even be a business using Wishadoo!'s tools for a kickstarter-like crowdfunding campaign.
Maybe I/we could get indie publishers involved with this project? Hmmmm......
As long as there is a Wishlist post that fits the TOS and is legitimate, it can be the recipient of the auction.
So, you could choose an existing Wishlist post (as you may see me post about in GD periodically) or, better yet, in order to help me expand Wishadoo and expand outreach for your book promotion, you can encourage any organization, school, library, etc. -- any person or group you can envision at Wishadoo! -- to join Wishadoo, create a Wishlist post, and they can benefit from the proceeds of your auction.
The more people we engage via organizations and networks who stand to benefit, the more exposure you and your book(s) get.
I'm thinking it would be really cool to get OWS involved as well. I'd also love to designate space just for OWS-related activities and ways Wishadoo! can be of service to that effort.
(BTW, this is currently the only means of generating revenue via Wishadoo!, as -- similar to ebay and other online marketplaces -- Wishadoo! does receive 3% of sales.)
If you're interested, please let me know! I haven't worked through every single aspect of this idea but would be happy to brainstorm with anyone interested. I will expand to other creatives and artists but want to start with books, since my background is publishing and I know more people in this industry.
I don't want to spam DU but will crosspost to the other writing groups here.
Thanks for reading!

(4,107 posts)I fit your description almost precisely. I self-published my book, and have had a hell of a time promoting it. I'm starting to work with a publisher now to do a second edition, and this would be a great avenue for me. I like that it would work with wishadoo, too. I've donated to some wishadoo things in the past, but I'm not a "member" if that's what you call it. I don't have an account or anything. But I would certainly sign up as part of this effort. I know there are other DU authors out there who would probably be interested.
THANK YOU! And please let me know if this gets off the ground, or if there is any way I can help it to do so.

(23,422 posts)Hey, kag!
Would you kindly do me a favor?
If you would go ahead and take a minute to join Wishadoo!, that would be great. I've gotten some really positive feedback already from writer friends, and I can communicate more effectively if I can gather those interested.
When you sign up, in response to the question "How did you hear about Wishadoo?" you can reply: Writers and DU.
That will help me know you're interested in this project. (You'll get a confirmation email; check spam if you don't see it within a reasonable time. Feel free to let me know if you don't see it, as I can always verify your account manually.)
Yay!!!
And thanks again for starting this. I'll poke around Wishadoo when I get some time, and see what there is to do. My username is kagu (had to be at least 4 letters .

SCREAMIN' SKULL PRESS
Spontaneous Prose and Poetry
My name is Tony Nesca, I'm an independent writer and my wife, Nicole Nesca, and I run our own indie publishing company called Screamin' Skull Press - which simply means we write and publish our own books exclusively. We have 15 books independently published and are currently looking to further expose our work.
Our styles, though quite different from each other, are at core similar to what writers like Henry Miller and Dorothy Parker might have done, or the original Beats from the 40's and 50's, though we both have our own very original and distinct style. It is rebellious literature at a time, in my opinion, where artistic rebellion is desperately needed, and fearless artists must come to the forefront.
I've included a link to our main web page -

Thank you very much for your time,
and continued good luck to you,
