Is it supposed to be this much fun?

I'm writing a novel and I am having such a good time doing it. I only have it about 2/3 or 3/4 drafted -- hard to tell exactly since I have not yet figured out how it's going to turn out exactly. And it is tricky getting the various details correct, so I keep on having to go back and change something when I realize that the original way it was set up isn't correct.

But I am enjoying myself tremendously.

Just hope that down the road other readers enjoy it as much.

I'm working on editing my final draft at the moment, and I enjoyed writing every word. I'm a science fiction/mystery fan and wrote a novel encompassing both genres. It was hard to keep track of all the little details, plot twists, characters, and I had to learn the process that would work the best for me.

Even if no one ever reads it but me and the few friends who have as well, it was worth every moment of writing, and rewriting, and rewriting.

Good luck, keep going, and enjoy every moment.

every novel is in a way a mystery novel. Mine is science fiction, but the mystery aspect is how much do I reveal how soon. If I reveal all of the "secrets" too soon, I haven't a novel, but a clumsily told short story. That just goes on and on.

Anyway, I feel the same about if no one reads it, again, other than some close friends who have had a look at some of the early parts.

only needs to be fun for you. Even if no one else likes it, it shouldn't diminish your fun in writing it, but if others do like it, that's another kind of fun.

All creative efforts should be fun, even when they're work.
