Related: About this forumMy play is a finalist in the Native American New Play Festival!
"Broken Heart Land" is one of three finalists in this competition. The winner will receive a full production to open next year's festival. I already feel like a winner, though. Whenever you come in the top three you are definitely not losing. For anyone in the Oklahoma City area on June 9-10, please come by! My play will be read at 1PM on Sunday, June 10th, at the City Space Theater in the OKC Civic Center.

(5,376 posts)As a writer with several published articles to my credit, I am delighted with your success and will be keeping my fingers crossed (when I'm not typing) that your play wins the competition. Wish I could attend the reading, but I'm out here on the West Coast. Let us know when you win, okay? Love the title, BTW--"Broken Heart Land" sounds intriguing and hope I have the opportunity to see it some day. Meanwhile, best wishes and again--heartiest congrats!
Blessings.

(12,263 posts)Best of luck to you for your continued success! "Broken Heart Land" is about a young mixed-blood girl who finds her strength and potential when she rebels against a marriage arranged by her family in order benefit from tribal land allotments. It received a very hearty reception at it's first staged reading in NYC. (I love it when people laugh in the right spots!)

(12,263 posts)I do write poetry and will be sharing the stage with other mixed-blood poets at a fundraiser for the Eagle Project in NYC on May 24th. The Eagle Project did a staged reading of "Broken Heart Land" in April and has hopes to produce it in the fall of 2013. But first, we gotta raise the money!

It's going to be fun! Can't wait to meet the cast and director. Hope the Oklahoma audience likes it as much as the NYC audience did.

(12,263 posts)Last year's winner was announced this year on May 1st. I don't know how long the author knew she was the winner, but the press release was worded as if the decision had just been made this year. So, I may not know for a while. But thanks for your encouragement and I will keep you posted.

(12,263 posts)It would depend on the actor's contracts whether videotaping is allowable or not. Mr. Pup is taking the camera. I may have some of those photos to share if video isn't possible.
