The Oakland County (MI) Child Killings

On Sunday and Monday, the Detroit Free Press did a retrospective on the 1976-77 series of child murders in Oakland County (which is next to Detroit's Wayne County). The articles were put together very well and can be viewed online at http://www.freep.com/article/20120617/NEWS03/120613060

Anyone follow this? I can't even imagine how difficult it has been for the families to still have no real answers.

One suspect that interested me is David Norberg. Here is the article specifically about him. An alleged child molester and a suspect in other deaths, he drove a car like one spotted near a crime scene and resembled a police sketch. But the most damning thing is:

In 1980, Norberg moved to Recluse, Wyo. The next year, he was killed in a car crash.

When his wife went through his possessions, she found a small silver cross inscribed with the name "Kristine" and came to suspect that it might have belonged to Kristine Mihelich, the child killer's third victim.

Kristine's aunt, who was two years older than her, said it was identical to a cross Kristine had won at the Romeo Peach Festival.

That sounds pretty solid right? But they've dismissed him as a suspect because his DNA didn't match "a hair found on one of the victims."

Now, I'm not a scientist, but he doesn't match one hair and all that other stuff is forgotten? That seems ridiculous to me, but as the articles make painfully clear this entire investigation has been grossly mishandled.
