Love
Your hand in mine…
I remember when we first met
Our glances crossed, then focused
On one another, lingering moments
Of curiosity, a spark of hope
Attraction, attention
Shyly, we made our introductions
A quest for names, small talk,
To overcome the formalities
Early conversation
Soon, we began a walk, never-ending
Under a summer night, we strolled
Laughing, giggling at the silliness of it all
We shared a meal but ignored the food
It was gone in fifteen minutes
But we stayed there for three hours
Talking, asking questions
All about one another.
As the months flew by,
Commitment became deeper
Our hearts grew connected
Until we thought as one
Knowing the truth
That we would soon be married
That blessed day
We never would forget
--
Through the years, challenges abounded
But we met them all, together
Clinging to one another when crisis unfolded
We found the strength to overcome
We raised our children.
Now they raise us
Watching us in our golden years
As we decline
--
Now from the bed
We look into each other’s eyes
One last time
Knowing that we cannot meet again
On this earth
Holding fast to hope
Of eternity
And reconnection
In perpetual peace
And love
Your hand in mine…
