The Rise of the Fourth Roach
Were they on drugs? was it pot?
Someday they will accuse everything it was not.
Truth? They were simply high on hatred,
Led by wolves all too well fed.
Fascism took everything to make war tick.
And here we are with leaders who are thick.
German democracy was part of the price paid,
And cars meant for people meant for progress, so they said.
Citizens treated like slaves and citizens slain.
Fascism took from them all and then took it again.
The brave who saw and stood mostly died.
While singing "Thought are Free," I have often cried.
But now the Trojan horse has opened and the Nazi party has come home.
It is entirely possible that I will die for writing this poem.
Expect division and killing and hatred to spill.
Turning in a child may soon prelude a kill.
And while their war machine was running,
it was something to fear. But the insides were crumbling,
if you look it's clear.
The Fascist takeover was a close thing, you know.
The world and genius had to fight for it to go.
But it fell hard with ruin and with it fell trust.
Our trust has already fallen hard as honor often must.
When cherished freedom is branded with lies,
And when faith in the process eventually dies.
Will we rebuild on the ruins being made?
Will we be a democracy that didn't make the grade?
Will we stand to wealth and tyrants before it's too late?
Or is this turning point our stupid move and our checkmate?
