Why Won't We Learn?

Why won’t we learn?

Just a brief look at history
Reveals the mistakes of those long gone
Poor decisions rendered
At the cost of death and pain
Unnecessary suffering
And useless loss of all that mattered

The key is education
A pathway to a better life
Not only of the material
But of improved understanding
The joy of knowing options
Of how to spend one’s days

At the intersection of greatness and mediocrity
The signposts pointing to the road ahead
Are ignored by souls oblivious
To which is right and good

Why can’t we learn?

We accept the wisdom of souls long past
Whose own sins were never redeemed
We imitate cultures long dead and buried
Instead of building up our own.
A race towards improvement?
No! A dive towards the depths.

Why not look towards our own great souls
Standard bearers for truth, for justice, for wisdom?
Instead, we look to loud-mouthed fools
Shiny and colorful, belligerent braggarts
Full of malice and a mental vacuum
With no ideas of their own.

We are doomed if we can’t learn
No progress possible,
As we join the remaining animals
In the wilderness of survival
Without self-awareness
Without souls….
