Beating Hearts

Beating Hearts And Twinkling Stars

No one knew, how could they?
That a star was rising.
one most bright and more brilliant
than those seen by those
who could not see. Yet rise it did,
though not yet known in
the cosmos beyond.

A beating heart. Are not we
all lovelorn at some
point in time? I muse to
reflect and comprehend
the incomprehensible. The
exit from love should be
graceful. As I reflect
on one little quote,
"don't cry because it's over,
smile because it happened.

Doves don't fly into the night.
they sit up on wires and rooftops.
these gentle creatures
herald the morning, shy
when disturbed they take flight.
leaving behind the mysterious
flight sound as they rise up
into the sky.

Oh one can call it a turtle dove
or the rain dove or the morning dove.
but make no mistake that dove of
peace is the mourning dove. Mourning
for those who mourn and for what
should have been.

A game bird hunted and sought
for sport. A gentle creature,
not unlike a captured starfish
gasping for breath stranded
upon a beach, awaiting the boy to come
and throw it back into the sea of life.

Oh don't muddy up the water I say,
as I journey back to another place in time.
His name was dusty. The dog. I said what?
Dryly he replied "it's short for dostoyevsky."
"Of course", I replied.
I should have known that,
having read all about crime
and punishment. Little did I know
that I knew nothing.

Just a brief respite as the tears are falling.
and in confusion, bent on knee, I ask why?
It was said that worries were whispered,
and hushed voices not heard.
The detractors dared not speak
of the one shrouded in niceness while
hiding the malice and stifled rage
of a spurned lover.

And the court jesters smirked as
the mocking gladiator,
taking his exit said snidely,
"you two must have had
a different relationship."
and I shouted out from the
womb of my room "yes
you damned fool, it was
and what do you know
of any of that?"

His beating heart destroyed
because it didn't beat for you.
and try as you did you
couldn't steal his soul. Enter now
the prince of darkness the one
you sold your heart to. A fitting
lover for one so black in spirit.

The cosmos endless, dotted
with the distant stars, unites
joyously and embraces
another star that rises and
shines more brightly
than the rest. Watch closely,
for the twinkling of the star
is the beating of a heart.
