During winter, when it gets dark so early, an hour past sunset is when I start nodding off! That's only 6pm! In December it will be 4pm!

This aging business, I don't know...

I just rounded my 67th trip around the sun and I am not thrilled with many developments over the past couple years.

First, the fairygawdmother of perpetual youthful appearance took off and left me with a jug of moisturizer and a note wishing me good luck! My hair isn't gray yet but the wrinkles seem to multiply overnight and my worn out parts that got worn from my driving days (also threw freight) are telling me what I can and can't do for fun... my body doesn't seem to want to keep up with me as much anymore. And sometimes I go into a room for some reason that made sense ten feet ago can totally escape my memory for up to an hour! And sleep is a short term event that comes on hard and when you're done, you're done, time to get up and move around before you can't.

Be prepared, this can happen to you!

6. Puts some wear and tear on a body!

Up until recently people always thought I was 20 years younger than I am. Nobody says that anymore.

Of course, it helps to look older when trying to tell someone why your back hurts and you are not going to pick up that heavy thing or perform that strenuous task. They used to look at me and think I was Shee-ra or some shit. I didn't look my age so why can't it do whatever? Now that I am starting to resemble my mom when she was 90-something, that doesn't happen as much, so there's that!

I'm looking for benefits to the aging thing but, so far, they're a little hard to spot.

When it comes to doing things, the mind is willing, the spirit is willing...

But the body says "wait just a doggone minute here".

I used to love to run, can't do that anymore. I still work on my own cars (former auto technician), but now I not only have to temper my enthusiasm based not just on the tools I have on hand, but what I can physically perform.

Used to be when I had a project I’d estimate how long it would take.
Then I’d multiply that by 2.5 and get a fairly accurate real-world time.

Nowadays, I multiply by 5. Sometimes even that is overly optimistic, but I can’t quite give in and just go ahead and multiply by 7 or 7.5!

A couple hours and I'd have to get up. My back, neck and shoulders don't like any of my sleeping positions so once I have used up their tolerance to my short list of options, I have to get up and move around or my whole day will be wasted trying to recover from the revolt my body puts up for my wanting to stay horizontal longer than 4 hours at a time.

Otherwise I think I wouldn't be permanently sleep deprived.

who has a doggie door and can let himself out. But, he wakes me up anyway to walk him to the doggie door and if I don’t, he’ll just stick his snout out the door and leave his “business” end inside flooding the zone. He NEVER goes out when I’m up, he waits to wake me up. SMH

is my new heart veins, and a titanium post and ball is my new hip, and some stainless steel netting thingy is my new aorta and some round plastic pieces are my new eye lens. This June will be 72 orbits complete. Carpal Tunnel has taken out my left hand… will be getting that fixed hopefully before the right gets too bad.

Gray hair is only in beard and well..down there. Wrinkles are my badges of the life battles I’ve won.
There are things I can’t do anymore but I enjoyed those things so the memories I have are precious and enough.
I’ve just replaced those with things I can do.

I could complain but the line is too long, plus it does absolutely no good. I’ve spent time in VA hospitals seeing people that had no reason to be joyful but were there smiling, laughing, telling jokes. Not trying to be punny but it gets infectious.

Life is good. Enjoy every day.

Daddy said it beats the alternative. I reckon he was right.
And you know I’ve got a song for this (and most any) occasion.

From Leonard Cohen, of blessed memory:
“Yeah, my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play…”
