You read that correctly:An Okanagan business is causing a stir in Kelowna by banning vaccinated people and the wearing of masks inside the store.
We would rather not be exposed to people who have been vaccinated and who could shed the virus, said Steve Merrill, Sun City Silver and Gold Exchanges owner.
Merrill says the ban on vaccinated people is to protect his clients and himself.
Shedding is real, its a problem now and it is going to be a bigger problem as more and more people line up for these experimental vaccines, said Merrill.

Hubby grew up in Tacoma! We were just discussing this morning the good idea that is presented to change the official name of Mt. Rainier to Mt. Taquoma (spelling?). The indigenous name! He's climbed it 20 times!

(4,999 posts)Talking with rangers (many who are now friends), the problem is many different tribes had access to the mountain before the white man came, and they all used different names as you might expect that were appropriate for their own language. So there isn't one common pre-white man name for the mountain.
I don't really care too much about the name, I love being close enough to get there and enjoy it frequently on the weekdays without too many people! I do volunteer trail work once a month in the summer on the weekend, looking forward to the end of the pandemic to get back to that activity.

Interesting about the languages...I'll have to read the article I saw this morning more closely.

Defining viral shedding
When an individual gets infected by a respiratory virus like SARS-CoV-2, the virus particles will bind to the various types of viral receptors, particularly the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors in the case of SARS-CoV-2, that line the respiratory tract.
Throughout this ongoing process, infected individuals, who may not yet be experiencing any of the viral symptoms, are shedding viral particles while they talk, exhale, eat, and perform other normal daily activities.
Under normal circumstances, viral shedding will not persist for more than a few weeks; however, as researchers gain a more in-depth understanding of the viral clearance of SARS-CoV-2, they have found that certain populations will shed this virus for much longer durations.
In fact, a growing amount of evidence indicates that the viral shedding of SARS-CoV-2 begins before a patient is symptomatic, peaks at the point of or shortly after symptom onset and can continue to be released even after the individuals symptoms have been resolved.
So, since no virus cells are being introduced by the vaccine, the "shedding" scare is just another conspiracy theory brought on by someone, somewhere...
