1. Actually, I love this idea

I'm going to use something like this, weather permitting. I didn't hand out candy for the last two years, but was thinking that I'd jump back in this year. My daughter-in-law thought that Halloween should just be forgotten this year because of the pandemic, but I told her I think it could be done carefully. So we'll see.

To get to my front door, you have to go up a flight of steps to a deck. In the past I always set up my candy-dispensing station on my driveway so the kids wouldn't have to try to navigate the steps with their costumes. So I'd set up a table with decorations, along with my chair, and wait for the kiddos. It'd be fairly easy to set up some sort of chute to send the candy down. I'll wait until I get a weather forecast to devise it all.

2. Keep in mind that if you're outside in the first place,

there's small likelihood of Covid-19 being passed. So long as the groups are no more than ten, preferably somewhat smaller than that, and spread out as they walk from house to house. An indoor Halloween party would be a very bad idea. But giving candy out? Not a problem.

3. You're right, of course

If I decide to do it, I'll be about 12 feet away from the trick-or-treaters.

If we're advised to pass on Halloween this year, I'll comply. I told my daughter-in-law that if they decide to take my four year old grandson out they could put his candy away for a few days and just let him have a little that they get ahead of time, but I doubt they'll take him out. She's been super cautious through this whole thing, and gave birth to a healthy baby a couple of weeks ago. I don't think she'll take any chances.

The more I think about it, the more I think that even if trick-or-treating happens, turnout will be sparse. So I'll probably end up scrapping my idea anyway.

Editing to add: I'm hoping that maybe sometime next year I'll be able to hold my newest grandson. It's just killing me not to be able to snuggle him, but his safety comes first.

4. The candy doesn't need to be put away for a few days.

This virus is NOT spread via surfaces. You don't have to quarantine your mail or wipe down packages with disinfectant.

But everyone should be wearing a decent mask and cover the nose. I'm seeing way too many people who have the mask pulled below the nose, even in stores. Some of those people will eventually get sick and they'll claim that masks are useless, never understanding how important proper wearing is.

5. I feel that if it makes her more comfortable, she should do it

I don't wipe down those things, but when she and my grandson stayed with me for a week to quarantine, I did it to make her feel more comfortable. She was pregnant, and very nervous about risks. I didn't see any reason to minimize her concerns, so i did it.

7. Is the being absolutely rigid about wearing a mask and wearing it properly?

If she's at all casual about that, she should be a lot more nervous about risks.

These kids around here are terrible spoiled l'il ass hats, therefore, this year, I'm putting up a COVID sign, and they'll get NOTHING.
