(18,647 posts)Love the crazed Swifties chasing after TSF! But this one is extra-special to me:
Seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show was a life-changing event tor me, and I somehow forgot about this major anniversary. Thanks for the reminder!

(19,565 posts)while it was being aired. For dad anything but Hank Williams, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline,
Charley Pride, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, Ernest Tubb, etc, etc was not worth listening to and he
better not catch me listening to anything like that.
Only thing I'd ever heard was old time country, swing, and big band music and he could tell I was enjoying the
Beatles. What's really funny is 20 years or so later he too enjoyed some of their tunes.

(18,647 posts)Being born and raised in Tennessee, it was almost unavoidable. She loved all the artists you mentioned, and more. But she also loved pop crooners like Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Nat King Cole. And she liked the Beatles, too, pretty much from the beginning! She actually used to listen to my records during the day while I was at school sometimes - which was fine with me. (My dad wasn't that into music and kinda stayed out of the whole thing, which was also fine with me.)
I always say the Beatles got me through high school. Those were not good years for me, for various reasons, and the Beatles were a big help. My best friends back then were fellow Beatles fans, and I'm still besties with one of those girls after all these years!
