Decided I needed a laugh break so I got The Princess Bride, book and movie. What a fun story. I think I liked the Asides more than the tale. Author William Goldman is a very funny guy and he wrote a lot of books. Interestingly, he wrote one called The Color of Light and here I am, still reading The Color of Lightening. I do so love a good coincidence. I also saw this post Thurs. morning after reading half the Princess book and just before watching the movie. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1017412245

1. Glad you had fun with "The Princess Bride".

I'm 2/3 through Peter Robinson's Cold is the Grave. When I finish I'll probably be back in bicycle racing non-fiction, Bobke II by Bob Roll. I will be looking to read more of Robinson's Chief Inspector Banks stories.

4. Hi everyone. Thanks for the thread, hermetic.

Still reading Kate Grenville's book, The Secret River. The story is unfolding slowly, but the author writes so beautifully that I feel completely invested in this adventure in New South Wales.

My family and I had much to be thankful for this year--good food, health and the promise of rain!! After 70 days with no rainfall, we are expecting rain over the next couple of days. The forecast is for 5"+/- in our area of N. GA. It would be nice if we could have gotten it more incrementally, but we will be happy just to have the moisture and to help with the wildfires in the SE.

9. We got rain! Real, wet, rain. 4.5 on Monday night and 1.5 late yesterday and last night.

We aren't "out of the woods," but at least the fires are out.

The lovely and wonderful Dolly Parton, who makes beautiful music and inspires young children to read, has a fundraising effort for victims of the fires in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and other areas around the Great Smoky Mtns. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/30/us/gatlinburg-fires/

7. "The Hornet's Nest" by Jimmy Carter

I'm finally back after the hack, and have some catching up to do. It's nice to be back. I thought I'd enjoy a book about the Revolutionary War in the South. After reading it for ~3 weeks, I got about 250 pages in and finally reached 1776. It's slow paced, with numerous paragraphs devoted to mundane colonial activities such as fabric making and dying, shingle splitting, and militia training. President Carter clearly put a lot of research and knowledge into this book, but I returned it to the library unfinished.

11. Graveyard of Memories by Barry Eisler.

It's the most recent of his John Rain novels, and actually goes back to why Rain got into the assassination business. Very good.

12. Have you read all this series?

I read Requiem for an Assassin some months ago. That was pretty good.

I see he has a new one right now, Livia Lone, that sounds pretty intense. "Filled with raw power, Livia Lone may be the darkest thriller of the year." I will have to keep an eye out for that one.

The title changes have thrown me a bit.

I have Livia Lone on reserve at the library. I have read his other stand alone novel, God's Eye View, and liked it a lot.

I didn't care much for his other series, and have only read the first two.
