I would like opinions from members of this group (fyi: If you are not already a member and would like to join us, please click the orange subscribe to this group button on the top of the main fiction group page).
I would like to know what you think about a map Ive made titled: DU Fiction Around the World, 2012. It charts where our members are reading about.
I used the replies to DUgoshs weekly What are you reading thread for the week of January 1, 2012 to start this map.
This is the formula I used to determine where members were reading:
I did not use cities or towns because many of them may only be fictional.
I used States only for the US locations and for all other places in the world I just used the country.
I determined what State or country by WHERE the book spends the most time in.
(i.e. If your main character is from Maine but the book is all about his/her time in college in Connecticut the books should categorize under Connecticut)
I find the map kind of interesting and fun to look at. The map is not meant to serve a useful purpose. Do you think I should continue?
If you do think I should continue would it be too much to ask for 'Title, Author and Where' in DUgoshs weekly thread when you list your book there?
I hope to hear from a lot of you, please.
The map:

(36,491 posts)I would/visit it often to try and find new reads! I've taken a look and it seems you've already put in quite a bit of work!
Please keep it up! Good job, Little Star! And great addition to the Fiction Group!

(18,161 posts)Not to diminish the work it took you to develop it, I'm not sure I'd ever look at it.
Just my two cents.
Little Star
(17,055 posts)never thought or intended for it to be helpful in anyway. But I appreciate your honesty about not finding it interesting.

(18,219 posts)but I will make your life easier when I post what I am reading by telling you where. I don't post on there often because it takes me a while to finish a book and I don't want to look pathetic with 3-4 weeks of the same book.

(17,055 posts)I understand that it is not useful. I got the idea while reading around on Reading Blogs. Many of them are using the map idea as a reading challenge.
It is just a whimsical kind of thing that I thought was cute and interesting. However, if the group thinks this is not anything they find kinda cute & interesting, I am fine with that.

(1,534 posts)But it might be worth bumping it with a thread when it's updated... kinda hard to remember otherwise.
I often list the locations of my books within the text of my reply - is that ok or do you want them in the subject lines?
Little Star
(17,055 posts)In the text would be fine.
