I read "The Sparrow" many, many years ago. I just discovered it had a sequel.

was thrilled that there was more. Mary Doria Russell has become one of my favorite writers.

Doc about Doc Holliday, was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in the last couple of years. If you liked the movie, Toombstone, you will love this book. The author did a great job of researching her subject and it is not coincidental that the book/movie jive in so many places. Ms. Russell also liked the movie, Toombstone and Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday.

If you haven't read A Thread of Grace by this same author, I recommend it highly. It is one of the better WWII histories of the war in Northern Italy.

I finished "Kindred" by Octavia Butler, a few weeks ago. It made such an impression I couldn't pick up another book for a week.

couldn't get into it. Sometimes you just have to be in the right frame of mind to read something.

My father was in a group (the First Special Service Force) who fought in the mountains of Northern Italy during WWII as well as in Southern France, the area that was the setting for A Thread of Grace. Many of the descendents of those soldiers have read and enjoyed this book.

Back at it. Second book of her Jungian re-imagining of Peter Pan. Dark, dense and rich. I'm reading it very slowly (a couple of chapters a week) since I know she hasn't started the third book yet

Listening: _Three Hands in the Fountain_ by Lindsay Davis (Falco #9). In the days of Vespasian, private informer, Marcus Didius Falco and buddy end up chasing a serial murderer when body parts start showing up in the water supply. Funny, but I think a bit darker that the previous few.

2013: 82 and counting.

by Margaret Atwood. It JUST came out(I had it on pre order since April) MaddAdam is the third book in the dystopian trilogy including Oryx and Crake, and The Year of the Flood . Margaret Atwood is a treasure. Years ago we had a detailed discussion of A Handmaids Tale, also by Atwood. That discussion was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had here on DU.It was on DU1.... long time passing!

Received _Never Go Back_ about 5:30 last night...

Don't start it on a school night, kids. I finally pushed it away a little after 2:00...only 280 pages on. There was also a football game to watch...
