Question about "The Cat Who" series; where is Moose County supposed to be?

I just started one of the books, and I was thinking if Moose County is County "400 miles north of everywhere" then
it must be in Newfoundland....or maybe Alaska?

Maybe the 400 miles is hyperbole?

With the mines and the pasty pies, it would fit. Though I am a little prejudiced since my father's parents came from that area.

If the town was someplace similar to Iron River, Michigan, and Quilleran had worked in Chicago, 400 miles is only a little farther than the driving distance between the two.

And those ABC murder mystery books. Kind of cute and quick. Been a while though. I don't recall the location.

When I first became disabled I read anything I could get my hands on. Good translating my nonsense.
