Related: About this forumI need help finding a book; it's a serial novel written by 20
well known mystery authors. Each author writes a chapter. One of them is Michael Connelly.
It came up in my daily free/discount books email the other day, and I misplaced the email.
There are actually 2 of them, this is the second one, and I think it is fairly recent.
I love these things. If you can find it, read "Naked Came the Manatee" which is all South Florida authors (Dave Barry, Carl Hiassen, Elmore Leonard, Edna Buchanan, and others)
A story of suspense written serially by thirteen of Florida's most talented writers--including Dave Barry, Carl Hiaasen, and Elmore Leonard--features a riot in Coconut Grove, an appearance by Fidel Castro, and other strange happenings
I found another serial novel "Naked Came the Phoenix" written by all women authors: Nevada Barr ~ J.D. Robb ~ Nancy Pickard ~ Lisa Scottoline ~ Perri O'Shaughnessy ~ J.A. Jance ~ Faye Kellerman ~ Mary Jane Clark ~ Marcia Talley ~ Anne Perry ~ Diana Gabaldon ~ Val McDermid ~ Laure R. King

(22,753 posts)It's over my limit for a Kindle book right now, but who knows - it may show up at one of my cheap book suppliers for a short term discount.
Or I might be able to get it on Libby via my library.
Naked Came the Phoenix was put together by all women mystery authors. I want to read it as well, and it is also in my wish list.
I think there are two serial novels by some of the authors who compiled No Rest For the Dead. The author list on that one includes some of these authors as well as others who did not participate in No Rest For the Dead.
Naked Came the Manatee was co-written by all South Florida authors. LOL The first chapter was written by Dave Barry, who names the manatee "Booger" (of course he did) This is one book I will never dispose of!

(22,753 posts)The reviews are great, but it is referred to as an anthology several times and appears to be a collection of short stories a few of which feature characters from different authors teaming up.
The one I am trying to find is one continuous story, with a chapter written by each author, who picks up the story at the end of the most recent chapter, and runs with it. (In Naked Came the Manatee, a number of the authors inserted their own characters into the story line) Apparently this took 3 years to write.

(931 posts)I remembered the title of the book and recalled that it had multiple authors, but missed the fact it was not a novel. Further research on this site - https://www.fantasticfiction.com/c/michael-connelly/ - indicates Michael Connelly did not participate in any such venture, nor has he collaborated with any one else. However in this multi-authored mystery novel - https://www.fantasticfiction.com/c/michael-connelly/ - John Connolly was featured. Might you have misremembered the name and confused it with MC? Been there done that. There is a follow-up volume as well - https://www.fantasticfiction.com/b/david-baldacci/no-rest-for-dead.htm - expanding the number of authors participating.

(26,599 posts)from the late 60s, where a bunch of prominent authors, writing under a pseudonym, set out to write the worst possible softcore porn novel. Needless to say, it made the best-seller lists.

(22,753 posts)I love all the clever titles which have evolved from that book
If I recall correctly, one of the sociology profs at my school had a hand in it. (that was a long time ago, and I have definitely slept since then)
