Now I am ready to try this online reading but, besides the library, I am looking for sources to snag some free ebooks.
This is an Amazon product but I don't want to sign up for their books even though they're breathing down my neck. I have a tablet with kindle built in. Oh, and alexa which I immediately disabled.
Anyway, I'd be very appreciative if anyone could share their ebook sources so I have a starting point to maneuver this brave new world (for me).
Thank you!

(5,630 posts)My most used source for free books is my library system. They have both regular books and audio books for rent. So easy. You just choose and it downloads it immediately. My library allows up to nine at a time. Good luck.

(693 posts)Sign up for their daily emails. Most of their recommendations are 1.99, 0.99 or free. All through Amazon.
If you like classic books, many are free or almost free on Amazon.

Sometimes a book will show up on more than one of these services, but not that often.
If you go to Amazon to check out the book and you have already downloaded it from them, Amazon will tell you. Sometimes I deliberately do that with a series.
These services are great because you can go into Amazon, read the sample and then decide if you want to get it.
I have discovered lots of authors and series I would not have ever known about, most of them are free or 99 cents. Occasionally I will indulge in a $1.99 book if it is part of a series I am reading - especially if I have earned some Amazon points.

(22,974 posts)They had a Christmas deal for a three year membership for $100.
You get unlimited access to over 5000 magazines, in digital format, along with back issues for most of them.
Warning: A lot of the "big' magazines are not included, like People, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, and Entertainment Weekly, so before you subscribe you should check their listings to see if your favorites are included. The ones that come "free" with membership are marked with a gold colored emblem. Also, the 5000 magazines include a lot of foreign titles in different languages. They do include a passel of literary magazines that publish fiction and reviews of books.
I've found plenty of titles I like, and along with the back issues, this is a big time sink for me.
