The 2021 National Book Award Finalists
October 10, 2021. The National Book Awards are granted to authors in five distinct categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation, and young people's literature. Here are this year's five finalists for fiction:
Cloud Cuckoo Land by Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Doerr. A novel about children on the cusp of adulthood in a broken world.
Matrix by Lauren Groff. A defiant and timely exploration of the raw power of female creativity amidst corruption in twelfth-century Europe.
Zorrie by Laird Hunt. An empathetic and poetic novel offering an intimate portrait of one tenacious woman in the early twentieth century.
The Prophets by Robert Jones, Jr. A passionate and dangerous love affair between two enslaved young men in the antebellum South.
Hell of a Book by Jason Mott. Incredibly funny and deeply honest, this novel goes to the heart of racism, police violence, and the hidden costs exacted upon America.
That last one doesn't sound like fiction although it is. Read more here:
