having been raised in the 50's South and seen this in real life, I recommend the book and the movie, heartily.

and I didn't feel as if I have wasted my time reading it. I even suggested it to others, and I rarely do that....but I rarely find a book that I find good enough to have bothered and don't want to subject others to it.

I also saw the movie, and was surprised to have enjoyed it too, but it was so much less than the book. And having read the book, I felt that I was at an advantage since they skimmed over so much that the book covered.

So I suggest it as worth your time if you enjoy reading.

Some people are unhappy with it because they say it's from the white perspective. Yet, Michelle Obama had a private viewing of the movie at the WH and Oprah herself praised the book to high heaven.

The book was much better than the movie naturally but I enjoyed both.

at the end of the book, as I recall. I think she did a good job of acknowledging that and being up front about it.

It made me angry. It made me laugh. It made me cry. One of my favorite characters was was the poor girl from the country who married the rich man who just loved her and everyone else hated her...except for the maid that she hired who had been black balled. That was my favorite story line in the book. Read it. I'm sure you'll find something in it that you'll like about it.
I have not seen the movie yet, but I want to. I love Emma Stone!

I'll pick it up again but so far it hasn't drawn me. I think I'm the only one who hasn't loved it. But give me time.

I would be a couple of years older than Mae Mobley. My mother was/is like Elizabeth.

liked the movie MORE than the book, which is usually not the case.

I've read the book and haven't seen the movie yet.
