It's kind of like Facebook for literati types.
I've been there two years and think it's great.

(17,055 posts)It looks like something I might be interested in.
I have a question for you about the "send me new book reviews from my friends". I don't want to clog up my mail box. How does that work? Do I choose my friends or do I just get random reviews? I like to limit the amount of stuff in my inbox, lol.

(10,044 posts)But I feel the same as Little Star about getting private emails about books. I am deleting so many now without reading them. Will definitely check into Goodreads, and Thank You...

(29,135 posts)I've gotten exactly one request for a review there. One. There's almost never anything in my inbox, and I have many 'friends' on there now. So I would say, relax, it's not a "spam heavy" website.

(18,272 posts)I'm in both Goodreads and Librarything though I spend a little more time on Goodreads. I think their forums are a little friendlier.

(1,208 posts)Goodreads has people rate the books they've read (from 1 to 5 stars), and it's usually pretty interesting to look at the overall composite review score for books. I've found quite a few really good reads there by looking at those scores.
I never have found a way there to sort books by rating score. I wish they had that so that I could see all the overall scores in order. Anyone know if that can be done?
So far, I just review books on the many lists there and while doing so, see the overall scores. Would be nice to have the ability to see the books listed by overall scores.

(20,176 posts)I'm connected there with three of my favorite authors. It's so cool to be able to have a conversation with someone you admire as a writer.

(12,530 posts)I guess I've heard of goodreads.com, but it just didn't register with me somehow. I just signed up, and I'm in the process of rating books so that I can get Netflix-style suggestions (at least I think that's what's happening).
Thanks again!

(43,215 posts)New novel, and there are two up for grabs if you enter by Dec 31st. PM me if you'd like details or would be interested in friending over there. I really do like it just as a consumer but it's nice for us self promoting writerly types too.
(Have we found the smilies on DU3 yet?)

(5,262 posts)I'm a member of both GoodReads and Library Thing.
Library Thing only lets you list 200 books before charging you. So I only have 200 of my latest reads listed. There doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of books you can have on Good Reads.
On the other hand, I've been keeping a list of my reads in a couple notebooks since 1975. So if either goes defunct, I won't lose anything.
