I am teaching a new class next year. First time it is being offered in the school. It will focus on literature that comes from minority voices in the US. This would be both cultural/ethnic and "situational" (if you have a better word for that, I'm looking for something better). What I mean by "situational" is LGBTQ, poverty, autism, mental health, incarceration, etc. I have some things in mind, but looking for things I probably missed. Hit me up with some titles. This would be for high school juniors and is decidedly NOT an honors class.

(10,419 posts)I haven't read this book yet, but recently read a very favorable review of it in the YA section of the May edition of Book Page. I have put it on my list of books to read.
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a memoir that addresses both poverty and mental illness.
Best of luck with this class.
