i got a hide today for a post saying i wasnt sad. but damn it, obits are the 1st draft of history, and i'll be damned if i let the fawning overtake facts.
yeah, i'm gettin a lot of flack today for being glad the old bird is no more. but i'm irish, and there is blood on that crown of my direct ancestors. before my grandparents came on coffin ships, 5 gen back, my rebel ancestor was sent to oz on a prison ship, tho above decks as a settler, his kin scattered. his nephew landed here. and the more f'ed up this country becomes, the more bitter i get that i am here and not home.
eta- tho my ancestor went as a settler, shortly after he got there, he was charged w sedition for saying- in this land all irishmen will be one.
for that he went to van demon's land. he was eventually acquitted, and rose to power there. but in the end, the crown, w help from the bottle, took him down, and he died in debtor's prison.
update- earlg has kindly reversed my hide.

(18,956 posts)For so long until I remembered that my grandfather absolutely loathed the English being the son of Irish immigrants. I mean loathed.
It took me a while to put it away personally but it is quite interesting how we learn hatred. Ive seen it learned intergenerational in other ways. The US has certainly done its share of harm, not least where my grand folks landed.
You do you but it doesnt serve me. Figured that out when I met an English person. She had nothing to do with any of it. I wish it wasnt such a compelling emotion. But here we are.

(71,869 posts)i got it form finding my roots, and learning my history.
also, the songs. i found that uncle in a song.
my 1st gen folks were grateful to be here. unfortunately, i ended up being born at the end of the commuter line from my extended family. my older sibling may as well have been born there.
but still, this anger did not come from them.
dont think i'd be this bitter had i been raised in the 5ht province of cook county.

(71,869 posts)and easy for the old girl to be sweet when she has so many to do her dirty work. and so much loot to live on.
i hope charles uses his time to do what he can to save the humans. he knows the science, he's walking the walk, and it's his passion.
and honestly, i dont hate him for di, i blame The Firm. and the idiocy of that virginity shit.

(75,587 posts)My older son has shown me things from our relatives in Ireland. It is something that can't be explained in so many words: either you understand, or you don't.
I understand that others on this forum are sad she died. So I don't respond much on those OP/threads. I'm neither happy nor sad that she died. She lived a dull life. I really don't know much about her, and suspect that she was a good person. But I do not take the feudal concept of "royalty" -- from medieval times -- to be any of any more value than the idea the earth is flat. I don't think the words "your majesty" can be applied to Charles in a serious manner.

(71,869 posts)so would i be if i had The Firm to do all my dirty work.

(4,180 posts)Of all the archaic wastes of time, nothing quite outdoes a good old fashioned monarchy.
The histories, traditions and near religious fervor surrounding them are more than enough evidence that they are a blight on humanity. The fact that a group of people, "nobles," is set above all others is a bunch of horse shit. The untold damage they have done to peoples of the world, (especially the two groups I represent,) demands they be abolished.
Be gone!

(71,869 posts)what happens if it falls? and what is chuck going to do?
he cares about the environment, so i hope he does some good.
someone was pushing me in another thread about what i would do. start giving it away.
and yeah, the point of my op was that the monarchy should fall. not liz should rot in hell.

(14,691 posts)"Reminder that Queen Elizabeth is not a remnant of colonial times. She was an active participant in colonialism. She actively tried to stop independence movements & she tried to keep newly independent colonies from leaving the commonwealth. The evil she did was enough."
It was all about money and power at the cost of other peoples sweat and blood as I see it..
Like many tyrants, these were not nice people. They traded in human capitol who's remnants this country is still dealing with today. The cause of a great famine to maintain profits is unconscionable.. grrrrrrr...
