(16,692 posts)My Great-great-great grandfather or something like that was so dirt poor there's no real record of him and the family leaving Ireland. Just his arrival at Ellis Island. His name is on the wall there. There was no immigration laws to break at the time. I'm here because at the time this country meant what was written on the Statue of Liberty, and is still written on the money, E Pluribus Unum.

One appears on a passenger list as a 5 year old boy -- all alone he was.
Such a tenuous history at best.
