The Irish in America: Long Journey Home: All Across America

One of the better documentaries I've seen on this subject.

Have we forgotten how the huddled masses came to the shores of America seeking refuge and a new and better life? How soon we have forgotten.

My Great-great-great grandfather or something like that was so dirt poor there's no real record of him and the family leaving Ireland. Just his arrival at Ellis Island. His name is on the wall there. There was no immigration laws to break at the time. I'm here because at the time this country meant what was written on the Statue of Liberty, and is still written on the money, E Pluribus Unum.

They ended up in New York.

One appears on a passenger list as a 5 year old boy -- all alone he was.

Such a tenuous history at best.
