Sen. Frank Artiles, R-Miami, faces a cacophony of calls for him to resign or be thrown out of office after he made racist and sexist remarks while arguing with black lawmakers Monday night at a private club.
Artiles and called several Republican senators n------, though he explained that he actually said niggas and thought the slang word was not insulting. He also referred to state Sen. Audrey Gibson, D-Jacksonville, as a b----- and a girl and called Sen. President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, a p----.
The Florida Legislative Black Caucus, which includes seven senators and 21 state representatives, issued a letter Wednesday calling for the Senate Rules Committee to begin the process of ousting Artiles from the Senate.
Black Caucus leader Sen. Perry Thurston, D-Fort Lauderdale, was present when Artiles went on his rant at the Governors Club, a members-only bar and restaurant in Tallahassee.
