Nearly six in 10 white Republicans think there is too much attention paid to race in the US these days, according to a report released on Monday. By contrast, a majority of black Americans believe race is not discussed enough.
The report, conducted earlier this year by the Pew Research Center, looked at opinions of race and race relations among people who are white, black and Hispanic.
With Obamas historic tenure as the nations first black president coming to a close, 63% of white Republicans said that the presidents policies had worsened race relations compared to 5% of white Democrats. Just over half of black people surveyed believed Obama made progress towards improvement and 34% said he tried.
Obama has been vocal about the impact of racial inequality on the United States, especially via his criminal justice reform efforts. By just about every measure, the life chances for black and Hispanic youth still lag far behind those of their white peers, Obama said during a speech to the NAACP last year.

(16,455 posts)How about rapists from Mexico?
How about that Obama is a Muslim from Kenya without a birth-certificate?
How about that black people should care more about black-on-black crime than about cops shooting innocent black people?

(18,124 posts)intraracial crime in our communities, but the repubs don't want us to realize race relations got worse because of Obama'a color, not policies. Race relations got a very bad kick in the pants that first Inaugural Ball with the likes of o'connel and ryan et al plotting the destruction of our POTUS and his legacy. Bullshit republicans don't want us to thinking to deeply and realize who is really responsible for the worsening race relations and MURDERS of unarmed, innocent black men, women and CHILDREN. To hell with white republican rushbots.

(31,849 posts)it has some real revealing nuggets in it, like the report's breaking out of republicans, was for only one data point ... the report's primary comparison was Black to white (the survey also broke out "Hispanics", though the summary does little to report out) ... and the white numbers didn't differ that much from the republicans.
